Reading Homework:

-Mrs. Parker’s reading class has homework tonight to read pages 179-198 by Monday in their Esperanza Rising book. The book should be in their Daily folder and must be returned to school. An electronic version is found on CTLS Learn in their ELA class.

-Every night, your child should read 20-30 minutes. They do not need to turn in a reading log. Feel free to engage in asking your child questions about the book they are reading. Below are some links for questions you can ask your child about their book:

Topics of Learning for Next Week:

-ELA: We are continuing to read the Esperanza Rising book to study the meaning of metaphors and character reactions. The goal is to understand how both impact the plot of a story.

-Grammar: After IOWA testing, students will begin studying interjections. They will be quizzed on interjections September 23rd.

-Social Studies: We will continue studying immigration during the turn of the century in the early 1900s. Students will be learning the push and pull factors for immigration and what life was like for many once they arrived in America. Students will be asked to write a narrative from the perspective of an immigrant during this time period for a writing and social studies grade.

Math and Science: (message from Mr. Connelly)

We started Unit 2 in math this week. Unit 2 covers place value with decimals. The students will continue to work with place value and decimals and will have plenty of resources in their math folder to use as practice. Please make sure your student is using their Clever account to login to Dreambox. They need to perform 20 minutes of Dreambox each night. They may also use Zearn if they desire more practice. In science, the students will learn about vascular and non-vascular plants. We will work on a three week-long STEM project that will be full of interactive and project-based activities. On a side note, please help your student make multiplication and division flash cards. The cards are beneficial for testing their math fluency and will only improve their ability. The standards for Math and Science are listed below. Have a safe afternoon.
